The Conveyancing and Probate

The Conveyancing and Probate Committee’s mandate is to monitor, review, and address matters affecting the practice of conveyancing and probate and the administration of estates at the Jamaican Bar. This includes the following core functions:

  • Reviewing and commenting on proposed legislation relating to, or in any way impacting, the practice of conveyancing and probate and the administration of estates
  • Monitoring developments in case law which affect these areas of practice
  • Liaising and consulting with Government Agencies and Departments whose operations, policies, or practices impact the legal framework for conveyancing and probate
  • Maintaining ongoing dialogue with key stakeholders such as the National Housing Trust, the Real Estate Board, the Registrar of Titles, the Probate Registry at the Supreme Court and the Administrator General’s Department
  • Advocating on behalf of practitioners in matters affecting conveyancing and probate and the administration of estates and to ensure that standard estate planning and probate work by Attorneys-at-Law remain properly regulated and accessible

The Committee currently comprises approximately fifty (50) members drawn from a wide cross-section of the legal profession.

The Committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month save for August and December.
