Family Law Committee

Family is the bedrock of our nation. Laws relating to family are an important means of fostering and protecting our society and are also crucial in assisting people navigate those difficult times when family relationships unfortunately break down. The Family Law Committee is committed to ensuring that the family law environment in Jamaica is conducive to these ends.

Accordingly, the Family Law Committee is a forum for practitioners in this area to:

  • meet and discuss matters that arise in practice;consider developments in family law, locally and abroad;
  • propose solutions to any challenges that present themselves in practice, whether through legislative change, consultations with relevant government agencies and departments or otherwise;
  • review and comment on any proposed legislation or changes to existing legislation which will affect family law; and
  • educate and inform the Bar and members of the public about relevant issues.
